A family dentist with a special touch is making a difference in the lives of his patients, staff, and community. Dr. Brian Novak practices dentistry in Whittier, California, as well as playing an active role in community affairs. He is the 2001 winner of the PTA Distinguished Service Award at Murphy Ranch Elementary School.
Dr. Novak is a California native and grew up in Downey. He was influenced and encouraged by his own family dentist to pursue a career in dentistry. He graduated from Whittier College in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. After working for a year in the aerospace industry, he and his family moved to St. Louis, Missouri. In 1985, he graduated and received a Doctorate of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) He returned to California and practiced in various locations around Southern California. In 1996, he purchased the practice of Dr. Robert Graham in Whittier and has focused his efforts in this location ever since.
The acquisition of his dental practice now afforded him the opportunity to promote his own unique approach to the profession. His philosophy is to treat patients with a personal touch and, at the same time, develop strong, long term relationships with his patients. Dr. Novak has always believed that the dental office visit should be short, productive, and a positive experience. His patients love him for it.
A large percentage of Dr. Novak's practice is children. Dr. Novak spends a great deal of time helping coach his sons' sports teams, volunteering at the elementary school, and also providing piano accompaniment for the school chorus program. His fun-loving approach to children has spilled over in his dentistry. He has been successful in a variety of behavior modification techniques to help children overcome dental anxiety. His favorite expression about this is "We treat the kids like adults, and adults like kids." This attitude of care and concern permeates the office, and smiling faces abound.
Dr. Novak is also a den leader for Cub Scout Pack 990 in Whittier. His hobbies include family time, playing the piano, and home improvement.
